How does the high-tech key work? The key contains a tiny embedded electronic chip called a transponder. Each transponder has its own unique code--it's the key's 'fingerprint'. When the key is inserted into the ignition and turned, the transponder is energized and broadcasts its unique code to the car's receiver in the dashboard. If the car's receiver recognizes the code, it will allow the car to start.

Nice Try

The key came quickly and is the right size. It appears to have a transponder in it, but unfortunately I cannot find anyone who has a machine to program this key. I'm afraid to take it to the dealership because they will charge me $40 to program it regardless of whether or not it works, so I'm going to have to accept it as being soley to unlock keys from inside if they ever end up in there again. Disappointing but not different then advertised.
